LGMG Battery Replacement Overview
LGMG scissor lifts utilize high-capacity lead-acid or lithium battery packs. This guide covers the safe removal and installation of battery packs on LGMG AS-series electric scissor lifts.
Warning: Battery replacement involves heavy components and electrical hazards. Follow all safety procedures and use proper lifting equipment.
Required Tools and Materials
- Battery lifting beam or spreader bar rated for battery weight
- Overhead crane or forklift with sufficient capacity
- Insulated wrenches (5/8" for lead-acid, varies for lithium)
- Torque wrench
- Dielectric grease
- Personal protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots)
Safety Precautions
Before beginning:
- Lower platform to transport position
- Turn key switch to OFF and remove key
- Engage emergency stop
- Disconnect external charging cable
- Allow batteries to cool if recently charged
- Verify no load on platform
Critical: On lithium battery systems, follow lockout/tagout procedures and wait 5 minutes after power-off before working on connections.
Step-by-Step Removal Process
Step 1: Access the Battery Compartment
LGMG scissor lifts feature a side-access battery compartment. Remove the compartment door by:
- Removing retention pins or fasteners
- Sliding door out of guide rails
- Set aside in safe location
Step 2: Document Wire Connections
Before disconnecting:
- Photograph all wire connections
- Note wire colors and terminal positions
- Label any unmarked wires
Step 3: Disconnect Battery Cables
- Always disconnect NEGATIVE cable first
- Then disconnect POSITIVE cable
- Stow cables away from battery terminals
- Cap exposed terminals if available
Step 4: Remove Battery Retainer
The battery pack is secured by a hold-down bracket:
- Remove bracket fasteners (typically 4 bolts)
- Lift bracket clear
- Inspect bracket condition, replace if damaged
Step 5: Extract Battery Pack
- Attach lifting beam to battery lifting eyes
- Take up slack in crane/forklift chains
- Verify battery is free to move
- Lift slowly and smoothly
- Guide battery out of compartment
Installation Process
Step 1: Prepare New Battery
- Verify battery specifications match original
- Check electrolyte levels (lead-acid)
- Clean terminal surfaces
- Apply dielectric grease to terminals
Step 2: Position Battery
- Lower battery into compartment slowly
- Align with mounting position
- Verify battery sits level
- Ensure adequate clearance for cables
Step 3: Install Battery Retainer
- Position hold-down bracket
- Install fasteners hand-tight first
- Torque to 25-30 ft-lbs in cross pattern
Step 4: Connect Battery Cables
- Connect POSITIVE cable first
- Then connect NEGATIVE cable
- Torque cable terminals to 15-20 ft-lbs
- Apply terminal protector spray
Step 5: Verify Installation
- Double-check all connections
- Reinstall compartment door
- Clear emergency stop
- Turn key ON and verify:
- Battery level indicator reads correct
- No fault codes present
- All functions operate
Post-Installation Checklist
After battery replacement:
- Fully charge before operation
- Monitor charging temperature first cycle
- Document battery information (date, supplier, specifications)
- Properly dispose of old batteries per regulations
Troubleshooting Installation Issues
Machine won't power on:
- Verify emergency stop is released
- Check main fuse
- Confirm correct polarity on connections
Battery indicator reads incorrectly:
- Some systems require BMS reset
- Consult service manual for calibration procedure
Charger won't engage:
- Check charger interlock circuit
- Verify battery temperature is within range
